These easy, sweet and sour sausages are a one-pan, family-friendly weeknight meal made with simple pantry ingredients and have a delicious, bold, sweet and tangy flavor.
2TablespoonsDried Onion Flakes or 1 small diced Shallot
2TablespoonsWhite Vinegar
1teaspoonChili Powder
1teaspoonCurry Powder
1teaspoonGarlic Powder
1teaspoonOnion Powder
¼teaspoonAllspice
14ozPeachescanned with syrup
Instructions
Preheat oven to 375°F, and in a large deep oven-safe frying pan, brown the breakfast sausages. Work in batches, taking care not to not over crowd the pan. After all of the sausages are browned, add them all back into the pan and set aside.
While the sausages are browning, make the sweet and sour sauce by adding the tomato sauce, ketchup, maple syrup, onion flakes, white vinegar, chili powder, curry powder, garlic powder, onion powder, and allspice into a medium-sized mixing bowl. Whisk the sweet and sour sauce until it is fully combined, and then stir in the can of peaches.
Pour the sweet and sour sauce over the browned sausages, stirring to coat them fully with the sauce. Bake for 45 minutes, stirring once halfway through. Serve over rice, and with roasted broccoli for a full meal.
Notes
If you don't have a large oven-safe frying pan, brown the sausages in a regular frying pan and transfer them to a large 9x13 casserole dish for baking.
You can use any type of sausage for this recipe: turkey breakfast sausage, beef sausage, or Italian sausages are all good options. If you are using larger sausages, cut them down into bite-sized pieces.
The peaches can be substituted for pineapple chunks.
Maple syrup can be substituted for granulated sugar.
