- Honey Garlic Sauce - We prefer homemade honey garlic sauce for this recipe, but it can be substituted for a thick and sticky teriyaki sauce or even this yummy bang bang sauce.

Flavor Variations
- Honey Hot Salmon Bites - prepare a batch of homemade honey garlic sauce and add Frank's Red Hot Sauce. Add anywhere from a couple of tablespoons to ½ cup of hot sauce to the honey garlic sauce recipe, depending on how spicy you like it.
- Sticky Teriyaki Salmon Bites - instead of using honey garlic, use our delicious teriyaki sauce for this recipe instead! The same goes for this, make it hotty-yaki sauce by adding Frank's Red Hot Sauce to the completed teriyaki sauce.
- Bang Bang Salmon Bites - Bang Bang sauce is a sauce that pairs exceptionally well with any kind of seafood or fish. It is a creamy, slightly spicy sauce that is *chefs kiss* delicious, especially on these crispy salmon bites.

How to Make Crispy Honey Garlic Salmon Bites
First things first, you will need to prepare the honey garlic sauce. Prepare the sauce and set it aside while you make the rest of the meal.
While honey garlic sauce is the preferred sauce for these honey garlic salmon bites our homemade teriyaki sauce or our creamy bang bang sauce are both delicious options, too!

- Step 1 - Cut the salmon into 1" cubes and place the salmon in a large zip-top bag. Add the spices, close the bag and shake to completely coat the salmon with the spices.

- Step 2 - Open the zip-top bag and add the cornstarch. Close it and shake the bag again, ensuring the salmon cubes are coated completely with cornstarch.

- Step 3 - Shallow fry the salmon in the hot oil until the salmon is golden brown, crispy and cooked thoroughly to an internal temperature of 145°F.
Use a high smoke point oil for frying such as canola, vegetable or avocado oil.

- Step 4 - Using a slotted spoon, transfer the salmon from the oil to a bowl lined with a paper towel to drain.

- Step 5 - Place the crispy salmon bites into a mixing bowl and add the honey garlic sauce. Gently toss the salmon bites to coat them with honey garlic sauce.

- Step 6 - Transfer the salmon bites to a serving bowl and top with thinly sliced scallions and sesame seeds (optional).
Shallow Frying (Expert Tip)
Shallow frying means to fry food in a small amount of oil. The oil will not cover the food completely while it is cooking. The oil will only come about halfway up the side of the food placed in the oil, requiring you to flip the food to get it golden brown and crispy on all sides.
Shallow frying is easier than working with a deep fryer or a large pot of oil and you will use less oil using this method. Due to this being fish, I would recommend disposing of the oil after cooking instead of saving it for another fry.
Frequently Asked Questions
All oils have a different smoke point or heat tolerance that they can withstand before they start to burn and break down, releasing unhealthy toxins into the food.
High-smoke point oils suitable for the high temperatures of frying food include canola, vegetable, and avocado oil. These all have smoke points of 400°F or above.
Yes! Spray the cornstarch-coated salmon bites with avocado oil spray, this will help to make them crispy. Spray the bottom of the air fryer basket with some more oil to prevent sticking. Air fry the salmon bites for 10-12 minutes at 400°F or until they are cooked thoroughly to an internal temperature of 145°F. Then cover them in our sticky honey garlic sauce, toss and serve!
If you choose to cook the salmon bites in the air fryer they will not be as crispy as pan-frying them in oil, but they will still be delicious!
Store leftover salmon bites in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
To reheat the salmon bites, heat in the microwave for 1-2 minutes or in a frying pan until they are heated thoroughly.

Print Recipe Pin RecipeIngredients
- 550 grams Salmon skin removed, cut into 1" cubes
- 2 teaspoons Paprika
- 1 ½ teaspoons Garlic Powder
- ½ teaspoon Onion Powder
- 1 teaspoon Kosher Salt
- 1 teaspoon Black Pepper
- ¼ cup Cornstarch
- 2 cups Oil* for frying
- 2-3 Scallions thinly sliced, optional
- Toasted Sesame Seeds optional
Honey Garlic Sauce
- ¼ cup Soy Sauce
- ¼ cup Honey
- ⅓ cup Brown Sugar
- 7-8 cloves Garlic minced and seperated
- 2 tablespoon Rice Vinegar
- ¼ cup Water + 1 Tablespoon Cornstarch
Instructions
- Into a large zip-top bag or mixing bowl add the cubed salmon, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, kosher salt and pepper. Close the zip-top bag and shake or toss to combine. Then add the cornstarch, shaking or tossing to completely coat the salmon cubes.
- In a large frying pan, add the oil and heat over medium heat until the oil is hot. To tell if the oil is hot enough, dip a wooden chopstick or end of a wooden spoon into the oil, if bubbles form around the chopstick then it is hot enough.
- Carefully place the salmon piece into the hot oil, leaving room in between pieces. You may have to fry the salmon in batches depending on the size of your pan. Shallow fry the salmon, flipping as required, until it is golden and crispy on all sides and it is cooked thoroughly to an internal temperature of 145°F. Transfer to a paper towel lined plate to drain.
- Pour the prepared honey garlic sauce over top of the salmon and gently toss to coat. Top with thinly sliced scallions and sesame seeds (optional). Serve.
Honey Garlic Sauce
- To a small saucepan, add the soy sauce, honey, brown sugar, five cloves of minced garlic, and rice vinegar. In a separate small bowl, stir together the cornstarch and water and add it into the saucepan. Cook over medium heat, whisking consistently until the sauce comes to a boil. Lower the heat to medium-low and let cook untouched for five minutes. Remove from heat, and stir in the remaining minced garlic.

Ann says
How long do you think you fry the salmon for to get to 145 degrees ?
Jessica says
About 8-12 minutes usually. Salmon is cooked when it easily flakes apart and is opaque all the way through.
