Crispy Baked Tofu is super easy to prepare and be used as a healthy plant based substitute. It is a perfect substitute for chicken in stir-fry's or protein bowls. This is a perfect recipe to have in your arsenal if you are trying to eat a little more “plant based”.

This tofu has the lightest crunch on the outside, but is so soft and delicious on the inside.
Also, I have to mention that this crispy baked tofu is only 167 calories per serving! Like, WHAT!

Pressing the tofu
Firm or extra firm tofu should be pressed before you use it in a recipe. This helps to extract the extra liquid, it makes the tofu crispier, and also allows it to absorb flavouring better.
To press the tofu place it between two sheets of paper towel or a kitchen towel and place a heavy pan or book on top. I use a cast iron skillet.

Let the tofu drain for a minimum of 15 minutes but you can leave it for up to an hour.
After the tofu has been drained, it is ready to go!
Crispy Baked Tofu
Preheat the oven to 400°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Pro tip- Crumple the parchment paper! Yes, crumple it up like a piece of newspaper. Uncrumple it and place it onto the baking sheet. It is waaaay easier to fit onto a baking sheet this way!
After the tofu has been pressed, cut it into approx. 1” cubes and place in a small mixing bowl.
In another small bowl combine the cornstarch, garlic powder, paprika, ginger powder, white pepper and stir to combine.

Sprinkle the spice mixture over the top of the tofu and toss it to combine it together.

Drizzle the extra virgin olive oil over top of the tofu and stir until the tofu is completely coated.
Spread the tofu onto the prepared baking sheet in a single layer.

Bake for 25-30 minutes, flipping once halfway through. Bake until the tofu is golden brown and crispy on the outside.

What do you use crispy baked tofu for?
This tofu is extremely adaptable to sauces.
You can literally use crispy baked tofu for anything that you can think of.
